Balfour Moss, one of Saskatchewan's oldest law firms, lately merged with the national firm Miller Thomson, LLP.
Gerald Courage, the chair of Miller Thomson stated that this is the most recent in a series of planned mergers designed to expand and deepen Miller Thomson's national reach.
Balfour Moss was founded in 1895. Preceding to the merger, the law firm had 24 lawyers in Saskatoon and Regina. The expanded Miller Thomson firm now includes 480 lawyers in 11 offices across Canada.
According to a senior partner at Balfour Moss, the Saskatchewan firm was hoping to connect with a national group. Brian Scherman, Q.C., senior partner at Balfour Moss stated that they took their time to consider potential partners.He also added that Miller Thomson appealed to them because of their open, amicable, straightforward approach to practicing law and they also shared similar values, including a client-first approach.
The development of law firms in Canada has taken off in recent years with numerous firms at the moment claiming to be nationwide in scope.
