Holman Fenwick Willan, the international law firm has enhanced its Perth office with the selection of Western Australia’s former Attorney General and environment minister Cheryl Edwardes as a partner.
Edwardes will be a partner in the firm’s business, projects and finance practice in Perth, commencing from 1 March.
She joins HFW from Australian mining giant Hancock Prospecting, where she served as the executive general manager managing external affairs, government relations and approvals. In this role, she assisted to secure the largest part of the necessary government and regulatory approvals for the company’s major mining and infrastructure projects.
From 1993 to 2001, Edwardes held a number of ministerial appointments in the government of Western Australia.
HFW’s senior partner Richard Crump said that he expects Edwardes’s knowledge and experience in environmental regulation, climate change and native title rights to set off the firm’s practice in mining, resources and energy, both in Australia as well as internationally.
The firm opened its office in Perth, its third in Australia, in May 2011. The most recent appointment brings the total number of partners in Perth to four.
