Intentional Tort

Intentional TortIntentional tort occurs due to an intentional act done by a person in order to harm another individual. In the case of intentional tort, though the tortfeasor(the person who caused the harm) might not have had the intention to harm the other person, he or she might be fully aware of the consequences of the particular act.

Examples of intentional torts include assault, battery, false imprisonment etc of which assault is the most common. Assault refers to an attempt to create a sense of fear in another person. In the case of assault, physical contact is not involved. For example, if a person just threatens to hit another person with a chair, it would come under assault. Eventually when the person actually hits the person with the chair it would come under battery.
